Week 4: Performance Task#1 (Effective Speech Writing)

Given the situation/theme below, write a speech considering all the different  principles of effective speech writing. It should have at least between 600 to 800  words.  Theme: (As a student)- How and what to prepare during a pandemic.      Months had passed when the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the virus, COVID-19, as a global pandemic in March. By this time, it had already hit our own country. By the end of that month, there were already a total of over a thousand of cases recorded, specifically 1546 confirmed cases and 78 deaths according to a weekly report from WHO. The numbers may seem low but remember that this data was from months ago. Currently, there are 525,618 confirmed cases and 10,749 deaths according to a visual presentation provided by the same organization. I am not trying to scare anyone but frankly, we should be a little bit scared. This virus does not give regards for your sex, gender, race, or beliefs. Anyone could be a...

Week 2 and 3: Activity#2_3

Directions: Give an example situation for each of the given speech styles below. 1. Intimate We were having pleasant time as a family while we enjoy our small feast during New Year’s Eve. As we dig in, we were also having an intimate and private conversation. Even in such pleasant times, my mother would still ramble about my father’s internal dispute with his side of the family. After that, she would then proceed about her own dispute with her side of the family. Even though this may seem problematic, the conversation would always still end with laughter as we try to forget such conflicts when we are in front of the dinner table. 2. Casual Talking to friends is such a comfortable thing to do. Since they are about the same age as I am, you do not have to worry about talking formally as compared to talking with the elderly. My friends and I would always talk about petty things such as quarrelling over games. Sometimes, we would also humor ourselves with inside and personal jokes....

Week 2 and 3: Activity#2_1

You were not able to prepare for your graded report in Oral Communication. Mr. Reyes, then calls you to go to the front and start your presentation. How are you going to explain your situation to your teacher? It would be unusual for me to be unprepared on a task that I had sufficient time to accomplish. If this were to happen, it would either be because of the lack of time for preparation or some other valid reason such as health related issues. Either way, I would just be honest and apologize about it. I would tell them calmly and politely the reason why I was not able to prepare for the presentation and just hope for a favorable response. Depending on the validity of my reason, I would then ask for more time to prepare and make sure to finally finish this presentation. Your cousin, Karl calls you over the phone and tells you that he cannot help you in your errand because he needs to do something for his school project. What will you tell him to convince him to spare you a bit of...
