Week 2 and 3: Activity#2_3

Directions: Give an example situation for each of the given speech styles below.

1. Intimate

We were having pleasant time as a family while we enjoy our small feast during New Year’s Eve. As we dig in, we were also having an intimate and private conversation. Even in such pleasant times, my mother would still ramble about my father’s internal dispute with his side of the family. After that, she would then proceed about her own dispute with her side of the family. Even though this may seem problematic, the conversation would always still end with laughter as we try to forget such conflicts when we are in front of the dinner table.

2. Casual

Talking to friends is such a comfortable thing to do. Since they are about the same age as I am, you do not have to worry about talking formally as compared to talking with the elderly. My friends and I would always talk about petty things such as quarrelling over games. Sometimes, we would also humor ourselves with inside and personal jokes. Despite the lack of formality, we still maintain respect and know not to step over each other’s boundaries.

3. Frozen

I was not baptized when I was just an infant. My parents waited until I was 10 years old. With this, I was asked by the sister to study the different prayers such as Our Father and Hail Mary which will be used in process. Luckily at that age, I have already learnt and memorized these prayers. My baptism went nicely, and I was cleansed from my inherited sin.

4. Consultative

Back when I was in 10th grade, we conducted and showcased our Science Investigatory Project (SIP). Our teacher in that subject taught as very well on how to conduct it. However, we still arrived at conflicts upon deciding and finalizing our main concept. We used to have many ideas and have trouble upon deciding which would be best suited as our final main concept. With this, we always politely ask our teacher for advises about our project and luckily, everything turned out well in the end.

5. Formal

In connection to our SIP, we also showcased and defended our project. After working hard on coming up with a title, finishing to write our manuscript, and conducting our actual tests, it was time to defend it in front of judges and other panelists. We dresses up formally and also presented our project in that manner. After presenting, we then proceeded to answer the panelists’ questions and listen to their suggestions. Even though we did not win, we were able to successfully present and defend our project.
